Winter in June

Since the boys were babies, I have always gone in their room around 11:00 PM to re-cover them and make sure they are okay for the night.

Last night I looked at Joseph and could not quite make out what the heck he had on his head. I turned on the hall light and I realized he had his winter hat on!!

Joseph is a funny kid, he is always up to something. He must have gone downstairs, got his hat out of the coat closet and put it on! It was only 70 degrees out last night, perfect hat weathter! What a character.

Joseph is also very complementary. I wake-up and he tells me my hair looks pretty (which I know is not true). Anytime I wear new jewelry he notices immediately and tells me how pretty they look. He always notices fine details.

The other night I gave him a hug goodnight and he whispered in my ear "I am so proud of you, mom". I had to hold back my giggle and ask him why he was proud of me. He said, "I don't know...I just am because you are my mom". So sweet.

A little about Joseph...

I have decided to occasionally write about the boys separately. Today I am writing a little on Joseph.

Joseph is a very laid back- "go with the flow" type of a kid. He does on occasion have a slight temper. But, very rarely. It is almost funny when he has a tantrum because he is such a calm kid and then all of a sudden he throws a fit and I am like "where did that come from?"

Joseph loves to read and draw. He could do these activities all day long. We bought the boys each a special toy this weekend for doing so well in their therapy classes. I was a little worried because for the first time I bought two different toys. Dominic got a geotrax train with remote (his favorite), and Joseph got a Travel Magna Doodle (a magnetic drawing board). Both kids loved their gifts and there was not one fight! It is like they know what each other likes and respects it. Anyways, Joseph could not get enough of his "draw draw board" He had to sleep with it the first night!

I hate to admit this, but Joseph also loves to watch TV. But not just any TV show. He loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and his ABC and 123 Videos. He loves to learn and soaks up every learning opportunity. He is extremely patient when I teach him new things.

He loves to be outside on his swing and has just learned how to climb up the slide. He absolutely loves blowing bubbles as you see in the pictures below.

Joseph just started Occupational Therapy last week and during his evaluation he did not complain once and preformed all of the tests like a champ. His therapist said she has never worked with a 2 year old that has cooperated so much! He already loves his new therapist "lissa" (Melissa). I am so thankful he has always thought therapy is fun.

He is constantly complimenting me (and everyone else) on my hair and jewelery. He touches my hair or jewelery and says "Pretty, Mama" and gives me a huge hug. It is so sweet.

Joseph has been through a lot in his short 2 years of life but has never complained or crabbed. He is such a "happy go lucky" child and really enjoys life. He is a joy to be around and is my little snuggle bug.

I love these pictures. They really represent the special glow Joseph radiates and his will and determination in life.

The Fall...

Well today was a very stressful, scary, worrisome day! The story goes:

The boys woke up late today around 8:30. I was getting ready for work and Matt went to get the boys up. Like everyday he opened up each boys crib tent(see pic below) and greeted them with a "Good Morning Boys"! As he was lifting Dominic out of his crib I walked in to see Joseph reaching over his crib railing yelling "Mickey"! He was trying to reach for his Mickey hat which was across the room on his dresser.

Because he is so top heavy, as he reached he flipped over the rail but kind of caught himself. Matt and I yelled "No Joe", but before we could reach him he had flipped himself over the rail landing on the hardwood floor.

Matt remembers that he caught himself with his hands first before his head hit the floor and his neck bent forward from a somersault. All I saw was his contorted neck and head. A vision Matt and I will never forget and do not even want to talk about anymore.

He cried right away so he did not lose consciousness. But, I was really worried about his head where he had his surgery. The top of his head is still weak and has a couple of areas where the bone is not totally filled in.

So off we went to the ER. How embarrassing for a Pediatric Nurse to bring her son in after falling out of his crib! Joseph was so good in the ER. They gave him some oral sedation and a CT scan. Everything came back normal- thank God!

So we are ALL recovering from our crazy day!

Now we have to decide what to do next. We are definitely buying 2 crib tents for my parents house. We debated about toddler beds but I think the boys are still not mature enough for them. So, our solution is to leave them locked in their crib tents and take them downstairs one at a time.

Even having the crib tents you can never predict how quickly things happen!!!!! Oh the lessons learned!

Here is a picture of the crib tents-

On a brighter note... while waiting for his CT scan Joseph recited his numbers 1-20! And Dominic continues to amaze me with his sensitivity. He was giving Joseph toys, pillows, and blankets all afternoon. I think he really felt sorry for him.

I am trying to do a little homeschooling with the boys. I found this wonderful and FREE website, ,that has a wonderful curriculum for toddlers. Tonight we learned about cows and the letter A. The boys colored pictures of cows (printed from the website), read a book about cows and used the letter A stamp. They loved it! I always wanted to be a teacher!!

I am off to have a cup of coffee, treat myself to a Kit Kat and watch the last episode King of Queens.
